In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity and compassion, the Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association (SLCFA) recently donated school ties to all students of Seevali Central College (Seevali Madya Maha Vidyalaya), Colombo 08, to be used during the academic year 2025. This initiative comes as part of SLCFA’s ongoing commitment to support education and uplift underprivileged students across Sri Lanka.
Seevali Central College, a national school catering to students from Grade 1 to 13, has been facing numerous financial challenges, making it difficult for many students to meet their basic educational needs. Recognizing this urgent requirement, the SLCFA stepped forward to provide support, emphasizing that the youth are the true owners of Sri Lanka’s future.
The event was graced by Mr. Premadara Dissanayake (Vice President) as the Chief Guest, and acoompanied several members of the SLCFA and school community. Mr. G.H. Anura, Principal of Seevali Central College, expressed his deep appreciation for the generous donation and acknowledged SLCFA’s continuous support, including previous essential food donations provided to students in need. He stated that such gestures not only meet practical needs but also uplift the morale of the entire school community.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Prasad Wijesuriya, General Secretary of SLCFA, emphasized the Association’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of students. “We are always prepared to help students in need. In return, we ask just one favor – study well and become good citizens who one day contribute back to the nation,” he said. Mr. Wijesuriya also highlighted the broader role of SLCFA as Sri Lanka’s pioneer people-to-people friendship organization with China, noting that the Association has consistently supported schools and students island-wide and will continue to do so with the assistance of their Chinese friends.
The event was attended by the Deputy Principal, members of the teaching staff, and students of the school. Representing the SLCFA were Mr. Gamini Rajanayake (Treasurer), Mr. Sudath Krishantha (National Executive Committee Member), Ms. Priyanthi Rajanayake (Member), and Mr. Indika Hewage, a professional accountant.
This meaningful project was initiated and supported by the President of SLCFA, Mr. Ananda Goonatilleke, Attorney-at-Law, along with the National Executive Committee of the Association. Their collaborative efforts reflect SLCFA’s enduring mission to strengthen educational access and nurture future leaders of Sri Lanka through genuine friendship and mutual support.
